So Conner finished off his last year of elementary school in May. He had a great 6th grade year! He had a neat bond with his teacher, Miss Albaugh. They had a fun year. He was on the jump team with other 6th graders that Mr. Bilboa (another 6th grade teacher) ran. They got to travel around to other schools and perform. At the end of the year they had two parent performances for the parents and we got to see what they had been working on all year. We went to the second one and Conner had won the double under contest in the one before- so we were bummed we missed it.
At the end of the year, Conner was awarded the Hope of America Award in an assembly with all the other 6th grade students. He didn't know he was getting it. Each teacher chose a girl and boy from their class to get it. The parents stood in the back behind the divider in the gym so the kids couldn't see them and then we walked up when his teacher called him up.
Conner was excited but nervous to start 7th grade. He missed the back to school night when you figure out where all your classes are and make sure you can get into your locker. They have an A day and a B day so it can get confusing. After he'd been stressing out about it all weekend, I went to school with him early, helped him get his schedule (he couldn't find it, another thing he was stressed about) and we opened his locker a few times, and started going around to his classes. After we went to most of them, he told me he was okay and I could go.
He's adjusted well to middle school. He has been very responsible checking his grades on-line and making sure to get his homework done. Last term, he got on the honor roll and barely missed the high honor roll. He told me his new goal is to get on the high honor roll next time.
